Webquests

Challenge 4: WebQuests

This week session is focused on the use of WebQuests. As the name suggests, a webquest is “an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. WebQuests are designed to use learners’time well, to focus on using information rather than looking for it, and to support learners’ thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation (Dodge, 1995).”

This slideshare provides a broad view of what Webquests are and their potentiality in EFL/ESL teaching.

After you have done the Webquest on Webquests, reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of using Webquests in the L2 classroom. Consider the roles of both teacher and students together with the resources (tools) needed to utilise Webquests in L2 teaching. Finally, answer the question: Would you give it a go to Webquests? Why?

Write your reflections on your blog before March 20.
